Cybersecurity professionals from across EMEA will soon make their way to The Hague for the 2019 (ISC)2 Secure Summit EMEA. As a prelude to the main event on 15-16 April, a day of workshops will expose attendees to realistic simulations of cybersecurity scenarios. Leading one such workshop on GDPR is lawyer Jonathan Armstrong, an acknowledged expert on data protection. Outside of the Secure Summit, his practice includes advising multinational companies and their lawyers on matters involving data, marketing, risk, compliance and technology across Europe.
“I’m really looking forward to the (ISC)² Secure Summit EMEA in The Hague and to running a special edition of our data breach workshops,” said Armstrong. “I always enjoy (ISC)2 events – it’s a great community and seeing people collaborate and connect is one of the key ways in which we can move forward as a community. We always find stuff of interest in the other talks as well – even after more than 20 years of working in this space.”
The decision to focus this intensive workshop on GDPR came about based on real-world demand. Experience teaches us that dealing with a data breach is one of the toughest things a cybersecurity professional will ever have to do.
“We had great feedback on the last workshops at (ISC)2 in London and we’re looking forward to helping people focus on data breaches and the new regulatory regime. The workshop will test a range of skills but more importantly help you understand what regulators are looking for in your response. We’ve now got enough evidence to know that rehearsing a data breach, and its regulatory impact, has a real effect on whether you do well or not when you have a breach for real. We know that there have been over 42,000 data breaches reported to regulators since GDPR came in so it’s a key skill for everyone in the room.”
The GDPR workshop on 14 April will enable participants to look at breaches in real-time in a rapidly evolving situation, helping them develop essential skills needed in a realistic environment.
